Ever since transitioning from an “Eat whatever I feel like eating even if it’s ice-cream and pizza” diet to a more “Eat what is healthy and necessary” diet, I have had to make a LOT of changes (and dessert sacrifices). As with any diet or day-to-day lifestyle, it is so important to make sure you set yourself up for success and reach for snacks that are good for you, not what is quick & easy.
Here are my favorite, satisfying, and energy-filled snack choices:
- Laughing Cow cheese spreads with any fresh, sliced vegetables i.e. cucumbers, carrots.
- Caprese salad, with maybe a little pesto to add flair 😉
- Fresh berries-strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries… with a small dollop of Cool Whip or crème fraiche.
- Cottage cheese with a couple packets of Splenda, and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Topped with strawberries or peaches! Tastes almost like rice pudding!
- Almonds, peanuts, cashews, macadamias…I also like to make my own trail mix by adding cacao nibs, and unsweetened coconut.
Another tip for my coffee lovers out there: try switching out milk for coconut milk and using Splenda, coconut sugar, or pure cane sugar. Avoid getting your daily carbs from sugar filled ingredients or grains!
